What to Expect from Aural Rehabilitation
All hearing aids amplify sound just as eyeglasses magnify light. The new user must be committed to a period of adjustment in order to retrain the brain. Over a period of weeks, the patient experiences improvement. Sounds not heard at home or at work are now heard. Just as the hearing loss is gradual, improvement is an evolving process that takes time to achieve the expected results. Patients are well counseled in the aspects of hearing rehabilitation at the time of fitting.
